Moving and Storage Tip – Scarves

I’ll admit it…I have a scarf addiction. I can’t help it! I love them!

The problem with collecting something bulky though is coming up with a decent storage solution. They take up a lot of real estate and you really need to organize them so you can see what you have. Over the years I’ve tried a couple options with varying results…

I tried shoving them into a drawer. Nope. Hot mess.

I tried the special hanger from IKEA with all the loops.

It was an improvement, but ultimately – Nope. It puffs way out if you actually use all the loops and then you can’t see the ones on bottom and you forget you already have 2 grey scarves and buy a third. True story.

So, I spent an evening on a solo business trip wandering around The Container Store and brainstorming with one of their awesome associates. We came up with a linen back-of-the-door shoe hanger and it worked great! I’d just stuff a scarf (or two) into each pocket and voila! I could see them all, get access to them without pulling others down and it was out of my closet. They were kinda wrinkly, but that was a price I was willing to pay.

Now…fast forward a year or so and toss a move in there to a house with about a quarter of the closet space. The scarf bag went up on the back of the door, but what was I going to do with all my shoes? (ahem…I may have a shoe thing, too. What? Shoes and jewelry/accessories, man…they always fit and that’s good for the soul. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Anyway, I digress…)

Hmm…well, I do have this scarf holder that’s supposed to be a shoe holder. How can I keep all the scarves I routinely wear and keep them visible, but condense them into less space so that I have a place for my shoes, too?

This quick video gives you the answer! Enjoy!
